An 84 year old Minnesota man, Pang Se Vang, allegedly shot and killed his son because he refused to pay the cable bill. The father then tried to take his own life by stabbing himself multiple times in the chest.
According to police, Pang became upset when his request to have cable turned on in the home they shared was denied by his son, Chue Vang, 36. Chue was found in the hallway Monday night with a bullet hole in his chest as reported by The Pioneer Press.
Argument Over Cable Turns Into Murder In Minnesota
Pang called his church pastor earlier that day to complain about the cable issue with his son and shortly after, locked himself in his room. When Chue opened his father’s door to talk, he was instead answered with a gunshot to the chest.
The father “did not want to settle the issue in court. He would settle the dispute with his son when they reached the afterlife,” a criminal complaint alleges the elderly man said. Apparently, dear old dad couldn’t leave the argument at that and had planned on following his boy to the afterlife to square things up.
After Vang’s eldest son disarmed him, he then barricaded himself in his room with a knife and began stabbing himself in the chest repeatedly. Upon arrival, a SWAT team tried to coax him out which led to a two hour stand- off of sorts.
When they got in, he was on his bed bleeding from multiple stab wounds the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports. He complied with police and was taken to the hospital where he was treated for wounds in his chest, neck, and abdomen.
No word on whether or not he was really upset about something else, as taking your son’s life over the refusal of purchasing cable seems a bit extreme. It could be possible that Vang had mental issues or was sore about something that had happened previously.
Pang was charged with second degree murder and taken into custody on Thursday making him the oldest person in Ramsey County with a murder charge in over 30 years.
